Gosselin, a leading European manufacturer of disposable laboratory ware, opens a manufacturing facility in Blackburn.
One year ago, Gosselin made the decision to cross the English Channel in order to be closer to its northern European end users and business partners. East Lancashire was an ideal location for Gosselin to establish its UK manufacturing facility partly because of direct access to its UK customers and partly because of the availability of an experienced local workforce. The new plant is a consistent step in the international development strategy of Gosselin. Following the USA (sales office, 2009) the UK was Gosselin’s next target because of its importance as Gosselin’s largest export market.
Gosselin manufactures a wide range of disposables laboratory ware. Its products are used in clinical analysis, microbiology, the food industry, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries and environmental analysis. The UK site is dedicated to the manufacture of products that satisfy northern European laboratory techniques
The new Gosselin facility is located on 1,858 m² site. The plant is composed of a manufacturing area and warehouse covering 1700m² with offices of 164 m². The production area is split in two parts with a clean room of 700m² and a controlled environment area of another 700m².
The factory commenced its manufacturing activities on the 1st of July 2010. Initially the plant will manufacture products focused on the clinical market and food testing markets but will later extend its range of products to cover those used in all market areas.
The UK site is managed by Mr. John Edgington who has lengthy experience in the manufacture and distribution of disposable laboratory ware. The UK workforce will initially be composed of 23 people but this will rise to 37 at the end of 2011 in line with the Company’s planned development.
Gosselin has a strong development policy which is based upon its experienced and technological background. This along with its workforce has enabled Gosselin to extend its international presence. The Company’s strategy has ensured that GOSSELIN not only continues to be Europe’s largest manufacturer of Petri Dishes but that the Company remains at the leading edge of high quality laboratory consumables manufacturing
